Limited Edition Trussart Cry Baby Wah

This ad for a paisley engraved Trussart wah appeared in Guitar Aficianado recently. No further word from Dunlop or Trussart at this stage but from the ad we can see that its a limited edition … it will be available this year … and it looks funky as hell! The fact that the only mention of it has been in Guitar Aficianado (between the Rolex and Single Malt ads) suggests that its going to cost a small fortune.

Plucked from My Les Paul forum.

First Demo of EJ Fuzz Face

Some killer sounding quick demos of the EJ fuzz courtesy of James Santiago from Voodoo Labs. He’s got the EJ licks down and it sounds HOT.

“Even though I did these while doing homework on my own Giggity pedal, they do also prove that the EJ fuzz sounds pretty awesome…Bear in mind that these were done with a real signed off version of EJ’s pedal. Other than myself, Jeorge Tripps and EJ, any other people that claim to have a different color/version are not hearing the final product.”

Jim Dunlop Eric Johnson Signature Fuzz Face Prototype Pics

News from Patrick Patterson, a member on the EJ fan forum, with pictures of his newly acquired EJ Signature Fuzz Face prototype. So the rumours were true and production shouldn’t be far off now! Early 2012 perhaps?

“…here are some photos of my prototype Eric Johnson Fuzz Face I picked up in Visalia, CA on 7/15/11. This thing sounds great in front of my Twin but sounds even better through a Marshall (I tried a 1970 big box 50W). I’m not sure if the production one will have them, but mine has BC183′s. This unit was hand wired by Jeorge Tripps. He founded Way Huge and is currently the Director of Product Development for Jim Dunlop. He also worked on the Hendrix and Bonamassa Fuzz Faces. A genuinely nice guy and it was a pleasure to meet him. It, to me, was even more of an honor to get to meet Eric back stage after the show. I cannot wait for the production version to come out so I can A/B them.”

Tom Bukovac’s Newer Pedalboard (Jan 2012)

A new pedalboard for Buk designed by Vertex Effects to approximate the previous one. The point being to have one for the road and one close to home for session work in Nashville. According to Mason from Vertex this is another huge board weighing in at close to 100lbs in the case. Quite an arm stretcher!

The signal chain is as follows:

INTERFACE (passive w/ master bypass) > Electro-Harmonix POG 2 > Boss V-Wah > Xotic RC Booster > Way Huge Green Rhino > ZVex Box of Rock (re-housed) > Nobels ODR-1 (re-housed) > Analogman King of Tone > Way Huge Pork Loin > Vertex GE-7 Equalizer > INTERFACE (effects break-out) > Peterson Strobo-Stomp Tuner > Neo Instruments Ventilator > Boss VB-2 Vibrato > Keeley TR-2 Tremolo > Dunlop Volume Pedal (Vertex modified) > Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man (Vertex modified/calibrated) > Strymon Brigadier (stereo) > Vertex EHX Stereo Memory Man w/ Hazarai (stereo) > INTERFACE (stereo outputs with ISO transformer and dual output buffers)

Oz Noy’s New Travel Pedalboard

Another great board here by David Phillips of LA Sound Design. This time for my favourite jazz / fusion Sonic Assassin, Oz Noy. Lots of delays, delays, delays, delays.

He packs them one on top of the other in a case for for travelling. The signal chain is as follows:

Wah > Octavio > AC Boost > TS-808 > Fuzzy Drive > Tuner Mute Box > Phase 90 > Swamp Thang Tremolo > Deja Vibe > Rotosim > Boss DD7 > Boss DD7 > Boss DD 7 > Memory Man > Line 6 M9.

Dunlop Eric Johnson Signature Fuzz Face TBC

** UPDATE – PRODUCT LAUNCHED AT WINTER NAMM 2012 – READ MORE **

Rumours abound of a new Eric Johnson Signature Fuzz Face to be released shortly by Jim Dunlop. After the success of the Bonamassa edition its no surprise that Dunlop would be looking to follow it up with another celebrity Fuzz Face model and who better to partner with than the man with best ear for Fuzz Face tones in the business? The classic EJ tone is generally working off a vintage Fuzz Face, Echoplex, Chandler Tube Driver and a wall of vintage amps. It works … big time.

Below is a shot of a recent EJ setup with some rather special looking Dunlop Fuzz Faces.

Klon News!!!

Straight From the horses mouth on the hallowed pages of TGP comes further news on a potential release date for the new Klon:

“…the new unit will be produced, according to my specifications and detailed instructions, by a contract manufacturing firm that specializes in the production of guitar pedals; I am now waiting to receive from them pre-production prototypes so I can verify that they have gotten all of the important and also unimportant  details right.” Right now I expect to be receiving these prototypes in maybe three weeks or so, and around that time – ASSUMING EVERYTHING IS UP TO MY STANDARDS WITH THE PROTOTYPES – they will let me know when the first production run will be scheduled and when I can expect to receive those production units. The run, by the way, will result in a large number of units, so no one who wants one should be worried that they might miss out if they hear I’m accepting orders a few days later than everyone else…

…I will be listening to each and every one of the new production units…to make sure, before boxing it up and shipping it, that it is up to my standards.

Regards,
Bill Finnegan
