Link: What To Learn from the New Angus SG?
Here’s a really great article at Woodytone on the new Angus Young signature SG’s from Gibson. It seems to me that SG’s are riding a little wave of popularity at the moment. Rawk!

Happy birthday to the late, great Jimi Hendrix for yesterday (27/11/1942). I’m always late with birthdays. Anyway – its a great excuse to sit back and be blown away by this great performance of Machine Gun again. We miss you Jimi.
Mr Vincent has just tweeted this great clip of Jeff Beck performing Drown in My Own Tears on Later with Jools Holland. Great clip!
Pete asks: “Where does Mr Jeff Beck rate on your list of tasty choppers?”
He’s right up there. I’ve already posted a few Beck related things and I expect he’ll be a regular around these parts. Beck has unequaled touch and control. A little waggle of the tremolo, working the volume control, left hand vibrato, hovering on the edge of feedback, harmonics … he does it all and makes his Strat sing like no other.
For recent examples of what Beck is capable of the Live at Ronnie Scott’s DVD is required viewing. Phenomenal playing by Beck and not to mention young Aussie, Tal Wilkenfold, who almost steals the show on Bass.
Be sure to send me any great Beck clips you find.

Killer performance by John Scofield in Santiago, 2007. Love the tone, groove and reverse loop weirdness. Total genius.

Great little piece from Sir Pete Cornish arguing against the hype surrounding true bypass in effects pedals. Not a new article but still worth a read. Who are we to argue?

Daniel Lanois with Trixie Whitley, Brian Blade and Daryl Johnson in the studio rehearsing Ring the Alarm from their upcoming release as Black Dub. Not the normal tastychops fare here but hey its Lanois and Brian Blade – this is music. Great jams towards the end.

Fascinating twelve episode documentary series The Peter Green Story on Youtube.
“The film traces Peter’s early success and spiral into schizophrenia. The story continues with Peter’s fragile mental and artistic recovery in the mid 1990’s that saw his most positive creative output for many years. The film contains extensive and rare archive footage of live and studio performances, stills, and original in depth interviews, with Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Carlos Santana, Jeremy Spencer and many others who were fortunate to work with or know the man.”

Cool little overview of some of the gear Jack White has used in The White Stripes, The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather.
The Oz Noy Trio with special guest Eric Johnson playing Schizophrenic live at Saxon Pub Austin, Texas. Great groove and flying by the seat of the pants type stuff. Oz Noy is one cat that is pushing things out there.
