A classic interview with Eric Clapton at the height of his powers in 1968. The formal tone of the interviewer is a bit awkward but he gets Eric to cover some good stuff including how he works his tone controls, dynamics, vibrato, the infamous “woman tone”, stock phrases and music as an outlet of emotion. Somebody please tell EC to play an SG again.
I love this clip of session ace Tom Bukovac trying out his Jeff Senn strat for the first time. He literally picks it up and plugs it into his Princeton and this tasty, melodic magic just flows out. I’ve watched this clip about 150 times.

My selection criteria for clips is:
- Great feel
- Played with passion
- Tasty tone
- Rooted in the blues (but not necessarily focussing on just traditional blues)
- Not just wankery
In terms of reference my holy trinity of guitar players is Clapton (particularly the late 60’s version), David Gilmour and Mark Knopfler. I would have said Hendrix too but I hemmed myself in there by saying ‘trinity’.
I’ll also be posting on cool guitar gear. Stuff I own or stuff that folks are blabbing about in the forums.
